Gordon Wolf

Originally from Primghar, Iowa, Gordon Wolf has been working in journalism since the spring of 1978. He has a major in English from Briar Cliff University (Briar Cliff College at the time). Gordon has held the title of Sports Editor, News Editor and was the editor of the Denison Bulletin and Review (Bulletin Review) from 1999 until they downsized in 2023.

“Over the years I developed a kind of philosophy, or mission statement, about the purpose for my career - to inform readers about their communities, to allow people to learn more about where they live and work and themselves, to help them realize that they are the lifeblood of their communities, and that what they believe and do matters.”

Lorena López

Publisher and Sales

A long-time Denison, Iowa-based journalist and founder of The Denison Iowa Free Press newspaper and LA PRENSA Iowa Spanish Language Newspaper, Lorena E. López is a native of Esteli, Nicaragua. López lives in the Crawford County seat of Denison, Iowa

López launched LA PRENSA in 2006 and joined her veteran newspaper colleagues Gordon Wolf and Dan Mundt in starting The Denison Free Press June 15, 2023.

She started in television journalism in Nicaragua and hosted a popular talk show for Channel 6, a primary station in her native nation.

López, who is bilingual, emigrated to the United States in the 1990s. She worked in various positions, including as a nurse, before launching Denison, Iowa-based LA PRENSA Spanish Language Newspaper with her son, Carlos Arguello, a Des Moines entrepreneur.

López, the owner and primary writer and photographer for LA PRENSA, is frequently a guest or source for major national publications and news outlets, such as The Washington Post, The New York Times, and Univision, where her views on Latinos in rural areas and observations on the Iowa presidential nominating process are highly sought.

The Denison Free Press and LA PRENSA offices are located in the same downtown building as the Donna Reed Center for The Performing Arts.

López, a co-founder of the Western Iowa Journalism Foundation, has been the publisher of LA PRENSA Iowa for more than 17 years and is the publisher of The Denison Free Press.
