Ann Hanigan-Kotz presented discussions about her books, “The Journey of Karoline Olsen” and “Sons & Daughters,” during sessions at the libraries in Charter Oak and Dunlap on Saturday.

Her discussions also centered on research she had done for the books, including research on the suffrage movement in Iowa and the effects of World War I on Iowans.

At a book signing at the Dunlap Public Library, Ann Hanigan-Kotz was able to speak with a relative (pictured with her back to the camera).

Ann is a 1984 graduate of Denison High School (DHS); she taught high school English for 33 years and is now retired from that profession. She and her husband, John Kotz, a 1980 DHS graduate, live in Adel.

“The Journey of Karoline Olsen,” which Ann self-published in 2021 under the title “The Longest Journey,” is a historical fiction about her great-great-grandmother, who raised 10 children on a farm near Soldier. “Sons & Daughters” tells how Karoline’s life unfolded after the death of her husband in 1905.

Ann has the manuscript for the third book in the series. She said the title has not yet been decided.

Her next book to be published will be out in the fall of 2024. It will be about moonshine and moonshiners in Carroll County.

Ann will present discussions about her book and a book signing this Saturday, December 9, at 4 p.m. at the McHenry House.
