Few surprises in city and school board elections
/With relatively few contested races on the ballot, the election of city officials and school board members held few surprises on Tuesday. However, write-in votes in some city elections figured into the results.
In Dow City, Landon Burhoop had resigned from the mayor’s position but not in time to have his name removed from the ballot. Kody Meyer mounted a write-in campaign and received 34 votes.
In Schleswig, Beth Winquist received 94 write-in votes for mayor, and in Westside Michell Simons received 21 write-in votes for mayor.
Additionally, in Deloit and Ricketts, names will be drawn from a hat at the board of supervisors meeting on Tuesday, November 14, to complete the filling of the council seats.
In Denison, Mike Schrum was elected to join the school board as a new member. He and incumbent Derek Lambert were both unopposed. Schrum fills the seat currently held by Kris Rowedder, who decided to retire from the board.
Also in Denison, Pam Soseman, Greg Miller and John Granzen were all re-elected as mayor and council members, respectively. Jennifer Zupp-Smith was elected to serve an unexpired term as a councilmember at large. Zupp-Smith was appointed to that seat earlier this fall. The seat was vacated by Jessica Garcia, who became the city manager for Denison.
Following are election results for the city and school board elections in the county, and district wide, where applicable. Results are unofficial until canvassed by the board of supervisors.
