BQA trainings set for Denison and Dunlap

Western Iowa beef producers who need to renew their certification for Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) can attend an in-person workshop in Denison or a second session later in the summer at Dunlap.

The first training session will be at Denison Livestock Auction at 501 North 9th Street in Denison on Tuesday, May 21, from 1 to 3 p.m.

The Crawford County Cattlemen will be serving a free meal beginning at 12:30 p.m. for those who attend.

RSVP for this training by contacting the Crawford County Extension Office at 712-263-4697 or emailing Kathy at kthul321@iastate.edu.

A second training session will be August 12 at the Dunlap Livestock Auction. Contact the Harrison County Extension Office at 712-644-2105 or email Carter at cpoliver@iastate.edu.

A majority of packers and local auction barns require cattle sellers to be BQA certified. BQA is a nationally coordinated, state implemented program that raises consumer confidence through offering proper management techniques and a commitment to quality within every segment of the beef industry. The Iowa BQA Program is funded by the Iowa Beef Industry Council and the Beef Checkoff. The education component is delivered as a joint effort by Iowa Beef Center at Iowa State University and Iowa Beef Industry Council.

To learn more about the Iowa BQA Program and other upcoming certification trainings in your area, visit www.iabeef.org.  BQA certification is also offered online for free at www.bqa.org.
