James Garcia, a 2022 graduate of Denison High School and a member of the Iowa State University Wind Ensemble, performs on clarinet with Lydia Lee. They were the soloists on the song “Concert Piece For Two Clarinets And Wind Band,” performed Monday night at the Denison High School Fine Arts Center. The Iowa State University Wind Ensemble is the university’s top concert band and is directed by Dr. Michael Golemo. The wind ensemble was a special guest at the concert that featured the high school’s 9-10 band and 11-12 band. See more photos below.

 
 

Concert sounds: music and applause

 

Angelina Gutierrez plays a marching machine during the song, “Terracotta Warriors,” which was written by Scott Watson to be a musical journey through the awe-inspiring army guarding the tomb of China’s first emperor, Qin Shi Huang. The musical piece was performed by the Denison High School 9-10 Concert Band, directed by Ryan Meyer.

Four directors: Dr. Michael Golemo with the Iowa State University Wind Ensemble, and Ruben Newell, Ryan Meyer and Peter Bekkerus with the Denison high school and middle school band programs. Newell and Bekkerus were students of Dr. Golemo.

 

Ruben Newell directs the Denison High School 11-12 band during the performance of “On A Hymsong Of Philip Bliss.”
