Tomorrow last day to complete survey for superintendent search

Tomorrow (Friday, January 12) is the last day people can respond to a survey to help choose the next superintendent for the Denison and Schleswig school districts.

Grundmeyer Leader Services is conducting the search to find a replacement for Mike Pardun, who announced in December he will be retiring as of June 30 after serving as superintendent for 20 years.

The survey can be found at the following URL, http://tinyurl.com/denisonsupt, or by going to the Denison Community School District’s Facebook page.

The short survey asks respondents to do the following.

List strength areas or points of pride for the school districts

State their perceived challenges facing the districts

Choose from a list of options the three most important professional skills and qualifications they would like to see in a superintendent

Choose from a list of options the three most important personal traits or qualities they hope to have in a new superintendent and to state why they believe those qualities are the most important

State any advice they would give to the new district superintendent

The survey is anonymous unless respondents provide their names voluntarily.

The application period for superintendent candidates will end on January 28, and the candidate applications will be reviewed the week of February 5.

During the week of February 11, screening interviews will be conducted with the semifinalists, and during the week of March 4 formal interviews will be conducted with the finalists.

Asked if community members will have a further role in helping to choose the next superintendent, Pardun said the school board hadn’t made that decision yet but added he is pretty confident that the board will want a community group to be a part of the interview process when the search gets to that stage.

Grundmeyer Leader Services was selected by the school board in December from among four firms that submitted proposals.

UPDATE on superintendent hiring process

In a press release dated January 11, the Denison Community School District Board of Education provided an update on the superintendent hiring process, following a recent meeting with staff with Grundmeyer Leader Services.

Following is that update.

The job opportunity was posted on December 19 and will be open through January 28.

After the application window closes, the search consultants will present all candidates to the school board in closed session on February 1. The board will select 5-8 candidates to screen.

Candidate screening will be conducted on February 12. The search consultants will set up and facilitate the screening interviews, and finalists will be publicly named shortly after those interviews take place. The desired qualifications identified by the district and board will continue to drive the hiring process.

Staff, administrators, community members, and students will soon be contacted to serve on the formal interview teams. The Denison and Schleswig Community school districts will both have representation in the interview process. Each person will provide the board with feedback on the finalists after the interviews.

The board will conduct formal interviews with the finalists on Monday, February 26.

The selected superintendent will officially begin leading the Denison Community School District and the Schleswig Community School District on July 1.
