One of the foundational public-service programs in Denison is moving in coming weeks.

WESCO Industries' WAVE program (wellness, acceptance, voice, empower) will be relocating from the Journey Church basement, 31 South 14th Street, to 1507 5th Avenue South - the back of the Verizon building on the south side of U.S. Highway 30.

The WAVE, a "dayhabilitation" program for people with disabilities and mental health issues as well as other challenges, will make the complete move by Memorial Day, said Aubrey Sholty, the dayhabilitation coordinator for WESCO.

"We think it is going to be like a new start for us," Sholty said.

She added, 'We were on quite the hunt (for a new location) for a little over a year."

The WAVE program is part of a portfolio of services the non-profit WESCO provides.

About 40 people attend the WAVE on any given weekday, Sholty said. Activities include food preparation, field trips and volunteer efforts in the community.

WAVE members will be involved in the move itself.

"They will be involved with the move," Sholty said. "They will be involved with the cleaning."

The move will start in May and take several weeks.

Sholty said a grand opening will be planned for June.
