Monarch boys compete in Tiger Relays

 
 

The Denison-Schleswig Monarch boys got first place in one event and some fifth and sixth places at the Tiger Relays in Carroll on Thursday, April 18.

The Monarchs scored 13 points and ended in 10th place.

Following are how the other teams placed: Gilbert, 1st, 133; Underwood, 2nd, 83; Kuemper, 3rd, 66; Carroll, 4th, 62; Lewis Central, 5th, 50; Boone and Atlantic, 6th, 49; Greene County, 8th, 46; Clarinda, 9th, 30; and Harlan, 11th, 8.

Jake Fink’s first place performance in the 400 meter hurdles – 57.88 – was a personal record and the best time by a Monarch since 2006. 

Following are other placings by the Monarchs.

Distance medley Relay, Trae Hartwig, Wilson Riphin, Edgar Oritz, Anthony Valtierra, 6th place, 4:11.01.

High jump: Jake Fink, 5th place, 5-6.

“It was a good night for our younger kids to get a lot of running in and I thought they did a nice job getting handoffs and working through the cold and wind,” said Head Coach Willie Baughman.

Personal bests were turned in by Omar Ramos in the 3200 meter run, the shuttle hurdle relay (Jake Fink, Brayden Adams, Francisco Escalante and Morgan Wood), Enrique Santos and Leo Sanchez in the 400 meter dash, Kevin Sanchez and Anthony Valtierra in the 800 meter run, Gabe Henningsen in the discus and Omar Ramos in the 1600 meter run.
