Vera Ione Talcott

Vera Ione Talcott was born in Union Township near Dow City, Iowa on February 15, 1926, to Orville (Guy) and Gertrude (Bramley) Argotsinger.  The family later moved to Deloit to farm, and Vera graduated from Deloit High School in 1945.

Vera and Roland Talcott were married March 4, 1948.  Vera and Roland Knew each other since grade school, and they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary shortly before Roland passed away in 2015.  Vera and Roland farmed near Kiron, and Vera stayed at home to raise their four children, Maureen, Maritta (Rita), James (Jim), and Patricia (Patti).  When the children were older, she worked for 29 years at JC Penny in Denison until her retirement in 1989.

Vera enjoyed socializing with her many, many friends in the Kiron area, and she and Roland loved dancing at Lakewood Ballroom.  Vera enjoyed crocheting afghans for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  Several of her creations garnered winning ribbons at the Crawford County Fair.  She loved antique collecting and was especially proud of her beautiful Flow Blue collection.  Most of all, Vera loved spending time with her family, and watching her Iowa Hawkeyes basketball and football games and Nebraska volleyball games.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roland, daughter Maureen (Talcott) Welch, sister Beverly (Argotsinger) Dumdei, brother Wendell Argotsinger and sons-in-law William Hesson (Rita) and Michael Lorenz (Patti).  She is survived by her daughters Rita Hesson and Patti Talcott Lorenz, son Jim (Kathy), son-in-law Byron Welch (Betty), twelve grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.

A 10:30 AM funeral service was officiated by Rev. Curt Copple on Friday, April 19, 2024, at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa.  Brian Talcott, Jesse Swanson, Keith Pedersen, Daniel Ressner, Joe Swanson, Ben Fadell, Zac Byard, Jacob Buhrow, David Welch, and Daniel Welch served as casket bearers.  Interment was held at the Dow City Cemetery in Dow City, Iowa.

Pauley Jones Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
