A first-time community-wide Pinewood Derby contest caught on big time on Sunday at Boulders Conference Center in Denison.

Cub Scout Pack 49 and Boy Scout Troop 55 opened the traditional pinewood derby up to anyone who wanted to enter – youth or adults.

The result was seven cars entered by Cub Scouts, 14 open-class cars entered by youth and five open-class cars entered by adults.

That’s more than 100 tires rolling down the track and different times through multiple heats.

Trophies and medals were awarded to the Cub Scouts. Trophies donated by Roger Waderich were awarded to the youth racers and the top car designers.

The adult racers competed for bragging rights and pride.
