Skywatchers

Many people were looking skyward in the early afternoon on Monday in the county, using special glasses to see the partial eclipse of the sun. The path of the total solar eclipse could be seen across portions of Mexico, the central and eastern United States and southeastern Canada. Over Denison, the sun played a game of hide-and-seek with clouds, but the partial eclipse was visible long enough to satisfy anyone who looked up. Pictured, Sheri Rowedder uses the solar eclipse glasses and her phone to snap a photo while Cheryl Lahr uses her glasses. They both work for Crawford County Community Health. The inset photo shows the partial eclipse taken with a cell phone aimed through the glasses. See more photos below.

Plenty of people were bending their heads back in the early afternoon on Monday to watch the partial solar eclipse. Among those pictured are Danita McGinn and Mandy Sandvold from Broadway Elementary, Paula Esser from United Bank of Iowa, Denison Elementary students and staff, Broadway Elementary students with Cheri Emery, Tonya Eller with Crawford County Bank, and Tedd Bliesman along with staff from Crawford County Community Health.
